The secret to a great countertop installation starts with accurate and precise measurements. The measure appointment should take one to two hours, depending on the complexity of the space being measured. Before the technician will come out, all the cabinets will need to be installed and level and all sinks, faucets and appliances should be be on site. On the day of the appointment, a decision maker will need to be present as this is the time where all information is collected to make the foot print of the space in order to fabricate it correctly. The measure technician will need to know the color of stone you selected and the edge profile that you have chosen. He will also verify the sink dimensions with the cabinet’s dimensions, if the sink is an undermount or self rimming style sink and make sure the sink accommodates the faucet you have chosen. The appliances are also verified during the consultation to ensure the measurements taken match the specifications of the appliances.

It is a good thing to be prepared with any questions you may have before the measure consultation. Make sure to ask about seam placement. A seam is where to countertop pieces mate up and are adhered together with a color match epoxy. Seams are sometimes inevitable due to the length and width of the pieces in the space. If you would like any specific overhangs, now is the time to let the technician know and make sure to ask if any sort of extra support is needed for this overhang. There are many different types of supports that are offered, from metal flat bars that are inconspicuous to attractive wooden corbels or brackets. After the template is complete and the final footprint of the space has been confirmed, no changes should be made post template to installation.
